Dear Mayor-Elect Nithya Raman,

Congratulations! We look forward to working with you to advance our shared vision of a just, thriving, and inclusive Los Angeles. Grounded in the Jewish values of loving our neighbors and caring for one another, we are committed to building a city that honors its extraordinary diversity and beauty while meeting the challenges facing all Angelenos.

The Los Angeles Jewish community spans a wide range of political perspectives; ethnic, cultural, and national backgrounds; economic circumstances; and religious traditions. As mayor, we invite you to deepen relationships across these differences, listen to the concerns and perspectives of our community, and share in our simchas (celebrations) as well as our struggles.

We hope that you will continue to build on your work to make living in Los Angeles more affordable and safer for all, move unhoused people into permanent homes with sustained services and support, protect our immigrant neighbors, create a system of community safety that protects all Angelenos, and ensure that our city is resilient in the face of the climate crisis.

We trust you will continue to be our partner in fighting antisemitism alongside all forms of hate, discrimination, and oppression, ensuring that we can live openly, safely, and confidently as Jews. Antisemitism cannot be addressed apart from racism, xenophobia, and economic injustices facing our city and country.  That means taking antisemitism seriously in its own right, while building the relationships and shared commitments necessary to protect the safety and dignity of all Angelenos. Our safety and our freedom are bound up together with the safety and freedom of all our city’s residents.

The Mishnah teaches that the world is sustained on justice, truth, and peace (Pirkei Avot 1:18). We hope these enduring values will help guide our shared work to build a Los Angeles in which every Angeleno can flourish.

We have had the honor of getting to know you as a city council member and we look forward to working with you for the well-being of our city as our new mayor.
